What is Saathi Support?

Many college students face challenges such as academic deadlines, social pressures, relationship or family problems, financial worries, and concerns about the future. When these challenges build up, they can affect mood and daily functioning. The Saathi Support programme was created for college students who feel they need extra support in managing these difficulties. It involves meeting with a trained student peer (called a "Saathi") who acts as a guide in learning and practising positive coping skills. These sessions are completely confidential and can be conducted in-person/online.

What does Saathi Support involve?

You will be paired with a trained student, called a Saathi, who will support you in learning and practising new coping skills. You and your Saathi will meet 4–5 times, with each session lasting around 45 minutes. Sessions will take place about once a week, either online or in person, depending on your preference. You will also receive a booklet with step-by-step guidance and examples to help you apply these coping skills in your everyday life.

Who are Saathis?

A Saathi is a trained college student who supports fellow students. They are not a professional counsellor or therapist, but they receive training and ongoing supervision from experienced psychologists. Your Saathi will not be someone you already know personally. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you can request to be matched with a different Saathi. Everything you share with your Saathi is treated as private and confidential.
